Muddy Middles

I find ‘Middles’ difficult
Beginnings spark with promise
Endings surrender to what was
Or grieve what could have been
But Middles squirm and wriggle
Or growl or pout in me
And I lose my bearings
Get turned around and lost
Finding myself in doubt or despair
Missing the ground of hope
Until I remember
I’m in a ‘Middle’
And this stirring of the waters
This dredging up of the muck
Is exactly as it should be
Don’t try to fix it
Or clear it up too soon
This mud is not for “making better”
It’s the making of the Lotus
Trust it
You can’t skip over it
Nor fast track its pace
I suggest you jump on in
Squirm and wriggle
And growl and pout as best you can
Give yourself completely
To the mud of the Middle
It's more beautiful than you think
